Dickenreishausen gets down to business: Local heating network grows and the first step for a CO2-neutral future in the district is taken
e-con AG expands regenerative local heating – now also for the entire town!
A local heating network for an entire district: For Memmingen, it is the largest project of this type so far, which e-con AG is implementing in cooperation with committed citizens from Dickenreishausen.
With the help of its own heating system, which is supplied with waste heat from an existing biogas plant, up to 90% of the buildings can be heated in a climate-friendly and energy-efficient manner. The local heating project was launched in 2020 for the “Am Ziegelstadel” development area. Here, around 40 properties have already been connected to local heating. From the end of April, the network will be extended into the village and the opportunity created to develop further households.
Behind the environmentally friendly project is e-con AG from Memmingen. “The close distance of the new development area and the village center to the biogas plant was a unique opportunity to use the already existing waste heat. We did not want to let this opportunity of a decentralized and climate-friendly energy solution pass. With this project, the district becomes less dependent on fossil fuels and makes an enormous contribution to climate protection. The concept of a regional creation of value, secured heat supply and affordable price goes at this place independently of the current world-political situation completely on”, so Peter Waizenegger, executive committee of the e-con AG.
The e-con AG takes over apart from the investment, the servicing, the maintenance and also the enterprise of the heating center as well as the distribution net. “We have planned the heating center so that it can grow as needed. Gradually, we want to supply the entire district with environmentally friendly local heating. Currently, we have a connection rate of almost 40%. This will save around 760 tons of CO2 per year and substitute more than 287,000 liters of heating oil,” explains e-con local heating project manager Thilo Bär, who is developing the project further together with the energy team, consisting of six committed citizens. All households in Dickenreishausen receive thereby the opportunity to be connected to the pollution free, CO2-neutral heat supply and to dispose of their old, fossil boilers or to say goodbye to their current-intensive electrical heatings and/or to set with the rebuilding or new building directly on local heat. The aim is to create economic and ecological benefits.
There are many advantages for households that connect to sustainable and regionally oriented local heating networks. Those who connect no longer have to worry about fuel procurement, boiler maintenance, chimney cleaning or environmental protection requirements. The installation of their own heating system becomes superfluous. There is no need for advance financing of fuels, and local heating is stable in price. Experience shows that fluctuations in the energy market have only a minor effect.
It is also possible to have only a partial connection laid to the building in the first step, so that a house connection can be activated at a later date without any problems. This is recommended not only for owners of fossil-fuel heating systems, but also for those who want to remain flexible in the future. Last but not least, in addition to all the practical aspects, there is always the good feeling of doing something for the environment and thus for future generations with climate-friendly heating.
