German Energy Savings Ordinance (EnEV) §12 – Duties and advantages

On the safe side for energy-related inspections

Operators of HVAC systems with a refrigeration output greater than 12 kW have to subject their systems to an energy-related inspection in accordance with §12 of the German Energy Savings Ordinance (EnEv). Refer to the following excerpt from EnEV§12:
“(1) Operators of built-in climate control systems in buildings with a rated output for refrigeration requirements of more than twelve kilowatts are required to have energy-related inspections of these systems carried out by authorised persons as defined by Paragraph 5 within the time frames specified in Paragraphs 3 and 4.”

How you benefit from an energy-related inspection.

The energy efficiency of the ventilation and air-conditioning system can be improved significantly by consulting our building services experts.
Tip: For the purpose of involving our specialist consultant, an application can be submitted for subsidies from the German KfW bank or the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA).

As of October 1, 2007, the energy-related inspection must be carried out within the following periods:

  • For the first time in the tenth year after commissioning
  • Recurring inspection of testing of the system every 10 years

For previously existing systems within: 2013-10-01:

  • 6 years (for systems from 4 to 12 years old – period ended 2013-10-01)
  • 4 years (for systems more than 12 years old – period ended 2011-10-01)
  • 2 years (for systems more than 20 years old – period ended 2009-10-01)

Professional implementation

The trained personnel (in accordance with the German Energy Savings Ordinance – EnEV§12) of econ TGA Ingenieure GmbH inspect your systems as part of the energy-related inspection. They check for proper operation, focussing mainly on energy efficiency. Metrology is used to test whether the values for installed capacity and air flow correspond to the current requirements for the building. In addition, the energy-related inspection includes the evaluation of the energy-related efficiency of the overall system from the standpoint of sizing and the system selection relative to the cooling requirement and utilisation of the building.

Furthermore, our specialist personnel provide you with additional metrology services for a variety of areas.
